Self-Tanning Tips

Nothing boosts my mood quite like a tan. If you’re feeling down and blah, apply some self-tanner and–voilà–instant mood enhancer. It’s like a ray of sunshine. But not. Because the actual sun, as we all know, is pretty damaging to our skin. Yep, that was cheesy and I liked it. 😂

I’ve tried so many tanning products over the years, with results ranging from disastrous to dazzling. The self-tanner industry has come a LONG way since I was in high school, but it still pays to be careful in what product you use and how you apply it. Let’s just say the margin for error is slightly smaller than some other beauty products out there!

I have used the Bronzed Cactus brand for several years now, and it’s my favorite by far. It’s a mousse with a guide in it to help you see where you’ve applied it, and I’ve found that that type of formula is the best for the most seamless at-home application. (Code CASSIDY20 is always active and can be used time and time again for 20% off your orders.) I tan once a week (usually on Fridays), unless I have an event. One bottle usually lasts me 8-10 uses, so about 2 months.

I usually apply my tanner in the morning and allow it to develop throughout the day. The Bronzed Cactus tanner takes about 8 hours for color to fully develop, but be sure to read the instructions for whatever product you’re using. Of course if you prefer, you can apply at night too. Just be sure to wear lose, dark clothing, as the guide may come off while you sleep.

Here are the steps to my routine:

  • Shave.
  • Exfoliate dry spots, focusing on the elbows, knees, wrists, and ankles. Always make sure your old tan is completely removed for the most even reapplication. The exfoliating mitt from Bronzed Cactus is absolutely amazing. For stubborn spots, combine the mitt with this Necessaire scrub.
  • Moisturize the dry areas listed above only. Do not apply lotion to your entire body as it will prevent the tanner from taking properly.
  • Apply tanner using an application mitt (I like this one).
  • The most common question I get is how do I do my back? Answer: I usually recruit Cort into helping me, but when he’s not home, I use this applicator.
  • There is a bundle option available that includes the exfoliating mitt, application mitt, and back applicator (this is the best deal!).
  • Leave your hands, neck, and feet for last. Put a pump of tanner on a Kabuki Brush and blend/buff into these area
  • Apply a drying powder to your body using a giant fluffy brush
  • For my face, I do a couple drops of tanning glow drops into my normal facial moisturizer. I usually need to reapply every 3-ish days because my skincare removes it faster.
  • Allow 8 hours for the color to develop and rinse off in the shower before hopping into bed for the night. I will apply a full body moisturizer at this point after rinsing. If you’re doing this routine overnight, apply the tanner before bed and rinse off in the morning, following up with moisturizer. As I said above, if you’re sleeping in your tanner, wear loose, dark clothing in case the guide comes off.

Preserving your tan

It takes a little effort to apply a tan well obviously, so it’s worth it to me to make it last as long as possible. Here are a few tips!

  • Use a body wash without harsh sulfates or parabens. I love Necessaire’s The Body Wash personally, and here are a couple more affordable options that are still recommended often by tanning companies as safe: Native Natural Body Wash and Hempz Triple Moisture Herbal Whipped Creme Body Wash
  • Use a body lotion that does not contain mineral oil or parabens. Moisturize daily. My fav is Necessaire’s The Body Lotion. And a couple affordable options include: Native Body Lotion and Hempz Body Lotion.
  • Try not to shave everyday. Shaving will exfoliate your tan off. If you wax, let your skin settle for at least 24 hours before tanning.
  • Pools, baths, and beaches will fade your tan. There is no way around this for any tanner on the market since it just stains your skin cells that naturally shed off daily. I highly recommend packing your tanner on these types of trips. Pro tip: Always double bag in ziplock bags in case of leaks!

Happy tanning, friends!

Extension Care

Let’s talk extensions! Love ‘em, hate ‘em… wanna try ‘em? I originally invested in extensions due to some pretty extreme postpartum hair loss, and it was during that time that I turned to extensions to help fill in the (literal) gaps. Let me show you what I mean.

My hair loss was so bad that I had bald spots around my head. I was so embarrassed by my hair that I have almost a year of pictures where I am missing. I was desperate to find a way back to something that felt like “me,” so I pursued extensions.

Extensions can elevate your hair in two ways: adding LENGTH and increasing VOLUME. Extra length seems to be the most common reason people look into getting extensions, but plenty of people with bobs add a row or two for fullness or to help with growth in certain places.

8 Months Postpartum Hair

I’ve had hair extensions on and off for several years now, and I’ve tried all the different methods, such as tape ins and clip ins. But after much trial and error, I’ve found that the beaded row method (also called natural beaded row) is the safest and works the best for me. This method involves hand tying the hair in, so there’s no glue, tape, or harsh chemicals involved. It causes the least damage possible, and I feel like it’s almost protective of my own natural hair growth. I recommend always reaching out to specialists in your area before booking an appointment anywhere, and do your research using tags on insta such as #[yourcity]handtied or #[yourcity]handtied extensions or #[yourcity]extensions.

Let me also say that extensions are a luxury. There’s no way around it – if you want quality extensions that won’t damage your hair, it comes with a higher price tag. I often get asked questions about pricing, but there are so many factors, such as local prices, stylists’ preference on brand of hair, length of extensions, rows needed to achieve the look, number of wefts per row, and color services that might come with it. Talk with your local stylist for pricing specific to you.

Hair extensions will usually last 6-8 months with average use when installed correctly, but they can be used up to a year or more with a good hair routine. If you decide to take the plunge, here are some tips for making your extensions last as long as possible.

  • Always use salon grade products on your extensions. Moisture is key to keeping your extensions fresh since they are not attached to your scalp and don’t receive the natural oils that flow down the hair shaft. Talk to your stylist about what you should use on your hair during your appointment, or check out some of my favorites.
  • Oiling your ends every night with a lightweight oil helps add moisture on a daily basis. I like the Elixir Ultime L’Huile Original Argan Hair Oil Treatment.
  • Always use heat protection with any and all heat tools, including blow dryers, curlers, and straighteners. Extensions tend to hold style really well, which is a plus because heat use is minimized on your hair. Amika has a great one!
  • Hair must always be dried thoroughly. Do not go to bed with your extensions damp, especially at the base. This can cause matting and in severe cases mold. Always separate the hair at every weft and dry in layers depending on how many rows you have.
  • Wear your hair in a protective style to bed. A loose low ponytail (use one of these scrunchies) is plenty, but a braid is best (plus it adds some waves to your hair).
Bonus tip: My favorite way to protect my hair overnight is to use a claw clip on top of my head. This has the added benefit of saving my curls and further reduces the need for heat tools.
  • Sleep on a silk pillowcase or bonnet to reduce friction. Satin is slick, and the hair will slip and slide on it. Cotton is great, but it can be rough on hair. If you prefer to use cotton pillow cases, invest in a silk bonnet as an alternative.
  • Always be on time with your services. The best way to protect your own hair is to make sure too much time doesn’t pass between your appointments. The rows will grow out with your natural hair, so steady move ups are a must to protect your hair from matting and reduce tension on the beaded points.

Lastly, if you ever have questions or concerns, always reach out to your stylist. In my experience, they are always happy and willing to work with you and educate you throughout this process. Good luck!

Anticipating Deployment

This post is for anyone who has ever found themselves in a solo parenting situation, especially a short term one due to deployment. I don’t pretend to know what it’s like to be a full-time single parent; you all are real-life superheroes. But I do know how it feels to have your spouse gone for months at a time, to have your relationship relegated to a voice on the phone and the occasional Facetime call, to watch your child miss their other parent and not understand why dad has to stay away for so long. I know the loneliness of running a household by myself; of grocery shopping and cooking for one adult (cooking for a kid is just not the same!); of being the primary caretaker, comforter, disciplinarian, and playmate of a toddler; of having to make quick parenting decisions without a partner’s input. I know what it’s like to solo parent for extended periods of time. And that’s why I can recognize the building anxiety as I anticipate what’s coming for our family in the next year.

Cort is in the military. Part of what that means is that when he’s deployed, he’s gone for up to ten months at a time. He’ll occasionally get leave to come home for brief periods, but we really get no say in the matter. Cort is away at training right now, will be home for a brief month and then deploy for an untold period of time. We are really hoping he’ll be home for the holidays, but there are no guarantees. Pre-deployment is tough too because there are a lot of meetings leading up to his departure. He’s in and out of the house all the time. I know it’s all important stuff, but I can’t help feeling like our family life is like a fly on the end of a string during this period, constantly jerked around without knowing when or where we’ll get pulled. Once Cort leaves initially, then I’ll really start my countdown for the big stretch of his absence.

I’m not gonna lie—deployment sucks. But since I’ve done this before, I’m approaching this time around with some intentionality and purpose. I don’t want to spend the next 10+ months wallowing. I don’t want to spend every day wishing the time would pass. That’s no way to live. Of course Lucy and I will count down the days until Cort comes home. We’ll miss him like crazy. But instead of feeling miserable and sorry for myself, I am currently reminding myself that I am a strong and capable woman, and while lots of things are outside my control, one thing I can control is the choice I make to define what Cort’s deployment looks like for Lucy and me. And so I’m writing this post in case any of you have ever been or will be in a similar boat to me. Here are some of the things I’m planning to do to view this time as an opportunity to become my best self in the coming months.

  • Organized home – I’m making it a point to put our house in order before Cort leaves. What I mean by that is that I’m implementing systems and rhythms that I can sustain by myself. Organized shelving everywhere I can, meal plans and plans for making meal plans in place, calendar set up for both Lucy and me… everywhere I can make a plan in advance, I will.
  • Projects to keep myself busy – I’m lining up some passion projects and busy work for myself to keep myself occupied and help me feel fulfilled and like I’m accomplishing something. Some of those include:
  • Exercise – I am happier when I’m moving my body! So I’m going to establish myself in a gym for consistency and accountability.
  • Eating clean – I also know that I can handle a lot more mentally and emotionally when I am physically healthy. Making sure that I’m not feeding my body a lot of processed food and sugar but instead real food that will truly nourish me is my goal. As with all things in life, a healthy balance will be the key here!

These long periods without Cort home are equally hard for Lucy, who adores her dad. To help keep her in a good rhythm while he’s gone, we signed her up for summer school, so that part of her life won’t be interrupted. I’ll keep her routines as consistent as I can. And as often as he’s able, Cort will Facetime Lucy. It’s never going to be enough though. I expect that her emotions will be out of whack for a while as she adjusts to missing him. She’s getting to the age where we can actually talk about her feelings, and I want to create an environment where she is allowed to feel all the feels.

One of the very few silver linings of having Cort gone, however, is that it allows Lucy and me to bond in an extra sweet way, so in addition to keeping Lucy’s routines in place, I’m going to take all the chances I can to make special mommy/daughter memories with her!

Cort and I also have some tried and true tricks for keeping the wheels of a relationship turning despite the physical distance between us. In the past, we’ve found that when your whole relationship is over the phone, you have a really hard time knowing what to talk about because you’re living completely different lives. Stumbling across these conversation cards as a game changer for us. The cards help us get beyond the “so what did you do today” stuff and talk about deeper things; they’re like a little long distance relationship grease to keep things from drying out. 😂 Can’t recommend them enough! We also set up Facetime date nights whenever we can.

These really long stretches of deployment are incredibly difficult, but I know that wallowing in the hard isn’t going to making it any easier. Instead, I’m going to try to embrace these months as an opportunity to become the best version of myself and to spend tons of quality time with my daughter. I won’t do it perfectly, but honestly, perfection is kinda boring!

Nashville Travel Guide ✨

Nashville is one of my favorite places. There’s so much culture, and the live music, shopping and food are just about all top shelf. Quite a few of you mentioned you’ll be traveling there soon, so I figured I’d do a rundown of my favorite spots!

Places to Stay:

  • The Graduate: This spot is ADORABLE… good service and super fun! The location isn’t prime, but if you’ve got easy transportation, you’ll love this spot.
  • 1 Hotel Nashville feels like you walked into a fairy woodland, and it’s in the best location!
  • The Muse Penthouse: The location on this spot is incredible and the rooms are absolutely adorable.
  • Urban Farmhouse Airbnb: I stayed here with a bunch of girlfriends for my 30th and LOVED this spot. Great urban home feel for a big crew!

Coffee / Sweet Treats:

  • Jeni’s Ice cream: Quintessential Nashville spot. You just gotta go.
  • Elixir: This is a beautiful coffee shop with a little bit of an elevated modern feel.
  • Frothy Monkey: Amazing little coffee place. Their Golden Monkey turmeric latte is 👌🏼!
  • Sump Coffee: If you are a coffee connoisseur this is more gonna be the vibe!) — this is more of a Cort spot.
  • Cafe at Bobby (good coffee and good cafe!)

Brunch / Lunch / Snacks:

  • Ella’s: Love this spot for a good morning cocktail with a locally sourced menu in a light and airy dining room.
  • 60 Vines: This is the a great family-style dining experience. You’ll find pizzas, pastas, cheeseboards, and more in a fun, casual setting.
  • Restoration Hardware Cafe: It’s always a great go-to for beautiful pictures and some light fare. Love this spot!

Dinner Eats:

  • Geist: This place was rated one of the most beautiful settings to eat in the US. It’s got a romantic, beautiful vibe and they serve the most amazing homemade pasta. Don’t forget to try the panna cotta for dessert.
  • Sadies: If you like Mediterranean food, oh my goodness this is your spot. The falafel here is AMAZING and everything else on the menu too. Favorite appetizer was definitely the whipped feta.
  • Hampton Social: Just yum.
  • Stateside Kitchen: Love that this place uses all seasonal cuisine in a really intelligent, Gehry-esque glass atrium setting.
  • Liberty Commons: If you’re looking for a more casual dinner spot, this place is a hip cafe that serves burgers, hot chicken and frozen cocktails all day long.
  • Pinewood Social: Housed in an industrial-chic setting, this place is a great spot for an all-American meal. Bonus— you can bowl there too!
  • Barcelona: This is a great spot for small plates/tapas! It’s so delicious and I love the setting.
  • Pearl Diver: This is a Tiki-style bar. Maybe not prime for dinner, but if you’re looking for something light with great apps… this is the place.

Shopping:

  • Most of my favorite places are at 5th and Broadway. If you route your Uber to that spot, you’ll find hours worth of shopping in an outdoor mall-style setting. It has a great mix of go-to shops and unique boutiques and Nashville originals.
  • Daniel X Diamond: You might have seen me wearing his signature rhinestone fringe jackets… I have a little bit of an obsession with all thignAppointment only.
  • Uncommon James: I looooove Uncommon James jewelry! They have the sweetest shop too. Definitely a frequent stop for me.
  • Hero (12 South): Such a cute boutique. Definitely bit more on the speedy side, but their hats, belts and accessories have an authentic old Nashville vibe.
  • Green Mills Mall: If it’s raining and you need an indoor hang, this mall has everything. I love a good mall with all the shops.

Night Life:

  • Casa Nova: This is Miranda Lambert’s club and it’s by far my favorite. If you’re looking for a spot with a good vibe and great live music, this is the place.
  • Sinema: One of my favorites!! We didn’t get there this past week, but it’s an ollllld 1940’s theatre that was remodeled but kept the old charm. The drinks and vibes are AMAZING!
  • Pushing Daisies: This spot is at the start of Broadway and a bit newer, but a great spot for a margarita (more Tequila themed) before hitting the Broadway scene. It’s so, so chill and nice. More like a speakeasy inside.
  • Patterson House: OK this is a true speakeasy! Great place to go for good drinks and good convos (not a party vibe). More like a place Cort would love.
  • The Fox Bar & Cocktail Club: This is a super small and intimate speakeasy, but the food is out of this world! Another spot Cort and I like to go for a date when we’re in Nash.
  • Other great bars to pop in while you’re on Broadway:
    • Tootsies
    • Chopper Tiki Bar
    • Whiskey Row
    • Honkey Tonk Central

And I would be remiss if I didn’t leave you with a little style inspo for your trip… check out my Nashville highlight on IG here! Lots of ideas and links there.

Hope that helps! Would love to hear any of your favorite places as well. Feel free to share in the comments!

How Do I Juggle being a Mom and an Influencer?

I probably get this question more than any other question. And I totally get why. It’s a really good question. Because being a mom is hard and grueling and exhausting, and for some reason beyond logic, you feel compelled to pour all of yourself out for the sake of your tiny humans. If you’re a mom, you know exactly what I’m talking about. Yet being a mom is also the single most rewarding thing I have ever done. Without question, without exception. The joy (and terror!) you feel to watch your heart walk around outside of your body is indescribable. Because those same tiny humans who require every last shred of energy from your weary body multiply what they drain from you and give it back to you as pure joy, pride and love. It’s unreal.

So the question is—how do I juggle the reality of the demands of motherhood with a career as an influencer? And the answer is actually pretty simple—it all boils down to BALANCE. When Cort and I first started dating, we had no idea that Lucy would make such a quick appearance. In a very short period of time, I uprooted my life and moved to California with Cort, started working crazy hours between two different, demanding jobs, and found out I was pregnant (MAJOR surprise). I had to learn pretty quick that balance was not only a good idea, but it was NECESSARY.

JustClassicallyCassidy started as a pandemic project. Like everyone else on the planet, I needed a way to harness some of the insanity that resulted from being cooped up for so long. But even more so, I craved connection with people. I didn’t start this platform with the goal of becoming “huge” or “making it,” but instead I set out to make meaningful connections in a shared space. Through the process, I’ve learned a lot about myself and experienced a ton of personal growth, which has helped make me a better mom to Lucy.

As I mentioned above, Lucy has been one of the biggest blessings in my life. Before I got the shocking news that she was coming (ready or not!), I hadn’t thought a lot about whether I wanted kids. But as Cort and I quickly learned, the best way to move forward when life throws you a curveball is to adapt. While Lucy was a baby, I worked at a hotel, and if you’ve worked in the hospitality industry, you know that people can be… challenging (let me tell you, I’ve got some STORIES). I worked long, tiring hours and felt like Lucy spent more time with her nanny than with me, and that was really hard for me. Frankly, I hated it and knew something had to change.

The beauty of working as an influencer is that it’s actually made it possible to strike a balance between being the kind of mom I want to be and having a career I love. I went from working long, strict hours to being extremely flexible in my availability. Rather than having my schedule dictated to me by someone else, I get to choose when and how often I work, which allows me to be present for Lucy when she needs me. My stories, reels, and posts represent only a fraction of the hours in my day, and I intentionally schedule my content around when Lucy is in school or when it doesn’t intrude into the comfortable flow of our family life.

Thanks to you all, I have the privilege of doing what I love while also being a mom to Lucy. And thanks to this platform, I end up getting so much more time with her than I would otherwise. Cort and I are constantly reevaluating our routines and boundaries to make sure that we’re creating a peaceful yet stimulating environment for Lucy so we can thrive as a family. As with everything in life though, it’s a work in progress!

Healthy Living + Lifestyle

Everyone wants to know what the trick is to have the energy, weight loss, and overall glow that we see online and promoted throughout the world. It is something I think we all have coveted from another person in one way or another. I can personally say I’ve done the whole thing where I felt sluggish, tired, and worn down where I wasn’t sure exactly where I went wrong. In this post, I wanted to take some time to really talk with you all about a few changes I made in my life that turned my life around.

Understanding my body first. I had to acknowledge with myself that sometimes, something medical may be the underlying cause. For me personally, I have struggled with a stomach digestive condition as well as some hormone imbalances. It’s hard to fight an uphill battle, so I first made sure to check with my doctors to ensure that everything was going to be right for my body and if there was something else that I may need to be doing to help get me on the right track.

The next thing I did was focus on what was going in my body. We all hear about “eating healthy”, “moderation”, “dieting”, and so on and so forth. While all of that can be important, I think the best thing is to start with a mind reset on WHY I was doing this. Sure, I would be thrilled with losing weight and feeling better in my clothes but I also wanted to have healthy skin, a longer life, a more rejuvenated sense of energy throughout my day. This wasn’t just going to be something “diet” related but more so an overall lifestyle change.

Nothing can truly stick in your lifestyle change unless you start with the mentality of making it a habit. I found if I went into it saying “okay, if I do this for a month, I can lose X number of pounds” I ended up falling off the wagon or just gaining weight back. It was never something that stuck and would ultimately send me into a tailspin—I’m sure we’ve all been there. So, what I really did was decide that I WANTED to be healthy overall. I owed it to my body and life to really have a balance but to also not deprive myself.

If I wanted to grab drinks with the girls? Sure, no problem. Were there options to select a “skinny” version of that margarita or could I sub out club soda instead of a sugary add in? It started by making little adjustments like that that can overall change the way I had a relationship with food and drink in my life.If you’re going to a movie, sure, splurge and have some of that popcorn or candy, but I knew that I wanted to make sure I reset my body the next day with a healthy breakfast and focus on my greens and proteins for the day. It’s all about moderation and that is something I really fell into when I was making these changes.

I found that I really liked cooking out of vegetarian cookbooks. These gave me flavorful and vegetable heavy dishes that I could just add some basic proteins too. This was an absolute game change to me. If I could get all of those vegetables in a dishes I genuinely wanted, then that was already one step closer to my goal. I also attempt to stay as close to the garden as possible. Fruits and veggies are your friends! I make sure that I cut up and have a ton stocked through out the day so I’m more likely to grab those instead of a bag of chips. Again, this didn’t happen over night but it was a step in the right direction. I also LOVE to eat Mediterranean food. It was a huge deal for me because I love my sauces/dips (Tzaziki is my go to) and this allowed me to incorporate some great options into what I was cooking or preparing.

All in all, I made sure to take this in baby steps until it became something I craved more than just grabbing a pizza or fast food. I promise you that your body will feel so much better if you focus on all the good that goes into it. Also know your limitations. Listen to your doctor’s and be aware of other underlying things like maybe a diary allergy? Gluten? Etc. There are so many factors that can be looked at but all in all, start building those healthy habits because we only get this one body and I know that I’m thankful that I started sooner rather than later!

My Hair Journey

My hair has always been wildly curly-hence, my childhood name being “Shirley Temple” but I was always able to straighten or curl it the way I wanted to—I know I know, some people would kill for natural curls. The main focus of my hair journey can really be isolated back to my postpartum days after having my daughter. I have never experienced hair trauma or loss as I had in those months following giving birth. I had heavy bald patches near my temples and an absurd amount of breakage and hair loss all over. I was devastated. Not to say that I didn’t feel like myself, but I always had grown up being told long and beautiful hair is what was the beauty standard.

I knew something had to change and I started researching everything I could do to get my hair to bounce back. Unfortunately, there is no magic cure that will happen overnight. It takes a lot of patience, time and diligence to work and coax your body back into a healthy state for hair growth. Please also know that in no way am I a professional or claim to be.

I am just sharing what has worked with me and how I amable to move forward. I always, ALWAYS recommend reaching out to your doctor about any concerns you may have to ensure there are not other

underlying health conditions. The priority is your health first!

I started by making little switches to my routines. I added in a good supplement to my vitamins (I’ve been taking Ritual vitamins for years), adding more leafy greens to my diet, doing a green protein drink in the mornings, switching my showerhead to a filtered system to cut out the harsh water chemicals, putting on silk pillowcases to help prevent further damage. The list can go on and on—which I will list out fully below.

  • Healthy and Balanced Diet… always think of sticking close to the garden!
  • Vitamins. You never realize how much extra support our body needs. I highly recommend checking out Ritual on my website for additional details.
  • Shower Head Filter. This is life-changing and super important for hair growth. I didn’t realize how harsh and heavy some water can be for your hair until I did some research. This shower filter is fantastic and available on Amazon!
  • Hair Products. I found what really worked for me. I invested in buying higher end products that would go back into nourishing my hair instead of stripping them. Check out my LTK for recommended hair products.
  • Hair Accessories. You have to choose accessories to use that don’t tear or damage your hair. It starts with good hair ties and scrunchies! I’ve also found these claw clips are good ones for mitigating damage.
  • Silk Pillowcases. This one is huge that so many people don’t realize! Our hair can get pulled and tugged from harsh fabrics while we sleep. Switching to silk can drastically improve your hair health over time. I recommend this one by Kitsch.
  • Less Heat. This one seems so difficult because I style my hair a lot but you can do it! I give my hair enough time to dry to about 80% before I dry it and then I make sure I don’t have my heat settings too high for styling tools. This is also a huge one — NEVER FORGET YOUR HEAT PROTECTANT — your hair will thank me later.
  • Extensions. This one can be so controversial for people. Yes, I know it’s not realistic for everyone, but it worked for me because it allowed me to have confidence back in my hair while it was growing. I currently have hand tied extensions, though I have tried them all (at least it feels like it!) That being said, please do your research and find a reputable salon that does a well placed extension. These can be very damaging, and you don’t want to reverse any good progress you’ve already made in search for luscious locks. Check out clip in or a halo extension as well!

All of this to say is that there is no one magic trick to make your hair grow six inches overnight. Lucy is four and I am STILL battling to get my hair back to the way it should be. Remember to be kind of yourself and have patience with your body in whatever journey you’re on because in the end it will be worth it and our body can only do so much with what we give it.

Where did it all start?

I have gone back and forth on what my first blog post would be. Should it be an introduction? A full breakdown of my story? Talk about hair, fashion, being a mom? I’m currently sitting on the Coronado Beach in front of the Hotel Del – the same spot I seem to end up at for all my major life moments, and for all my big life decisions. Seems fitting I would get struck with my first blog post idea right on the spot that’s changed my life multiple times. So I am simply going to share one story in this first blogpost. It’s a story really up until this moment, no one knows about.

I spent 8 years living in Lynchburg VA. I had JUST started a new chapter. Divorce proceedings had started. I got my own one bedroom apartment. I had a new job I was enjoying. My friendships were all in the burg. On the outside things were good! However, the ghost of my past was EVERYWHERE. I couldn’t go to the local Walmart without haunted memories. I couldn’t go out to one of the few bars or restaurants with my friends without running into my ex husband or his friends. The town I had come to love felt like it was getting smaller and smaller. Lynchburg was all I had and truly I was scared to go anywhere else. I had dreams of NYC to live out my Carrie Bradshaw dreams, but no guts to make that move. I had always wanted to live near a beach, the waves, sand, and sun have a way of calming my soul that no where else can – but my bubble was so strong I couldn’t imagine starting over.
Cort entered the picture. This handsome guy, with kind eyes. Seems weird, but the first thing I noticed about Cort was his kind eyes. He proved to be a Prince Charming in so many ways, but I won’t bore you with the mushy gushy details. I got to visit him a few times in San Diego, since that’s where he was stationed, and it was a DREAM. It was on the Coronado beach that Cort told me he loved me for the first time and asked me not to leave. He wanted me to permanently move to San Diego. This is where my fairy tale secret romance came to a very scary realization. To be with Cort, meant starting over. Meant moving across country. Leaving everything I knew. Everything I found comfortable. Fun fact – Cort was also getting ready for a deployment. I would move only to say goodbye and start over without him.
I went back to Lynchburg very unsettled. Everything in me wanted to be with Cort. Every

thing in me was TERRIFIED. I knew one thing for sure, if I was going to move only for Cort to leave – I needed to be sure I didn’t just love San Diego because Cort was there.
